The Charles R. Newton Emergency Training Services in Midway offers training for First Responders, Red Cross, Law Enforcement and a variety of other agencies. Through the training center, all fire departments in the county are assisted in obtaining certified training required by the Fire Protection Services Board. Baxter County has 18 Fire Departments, including Oakland/Promise Land Fire Department, which is located in Marion County but also responds to fires in Baxter County.
